Anxious Temperament Predicts Poor Acceptance of Self and Life in Bipolar Disorder during the COVID-19 Pandemic

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic and the social distancing resulting thereof are having a great impact on psychological well-being. Studies investigating resilience found that it impacts mental health during crises. This study aimed to evaluate influence of pre-crisis temperament in individuals with bipolar disorder COVID-19 pandemic. An online survey was conducted Austria between April June 2020, including 36 39 healthy controls. Resilience assessed 13-item scale, measured Temperament Evaluation Memphis, Pisa, Paris San Diego-autoquestionnaire (TEMPS-A). group showed lower than control group, scored higher TEMPS-A for depressive, cyclothymic, anxious temperaments. could be predicted by disorder, correlated negatively depressive symptoms both groups. results suggest influences likely more temporary hardships, such as first months crisis. It is therefore important improve not only short-term interventions, but strengthening reducing long term.
